Hopefully all have enjoyed this Thanksgiving break and with the promise of snow, winter has arrived! I just wanted to remind Eigth Graders to bring their SIGNED, permission forms on Monday for our field trip to Roxy Theatre on Tuesday. We will be leaving at approximately 7:50 Tuesday morning and don't forget to bring money for lunch.
Note to Parents: Sixth through eight grades will be testing in GRADE(Reading)this week, please make sure students are rested and have eaten a good breakfast so they can give their best on the assessments.
Congratulations to Seventh graders for high ThinkLink test scores!! Sixth graders, you kept your averages up too- awesome!
Enjoy your last day of break and keep looking for those snowflakes.
See you on Monday!

Time marches on and so have we in our classes. Most of us are learning our new schedules and locker times so that is great. Sixth graders continue to read and explore Charlotte's adventure in True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi. This is one of my favorite novels and we are almost to one of the most exciting parts- it's so hard for me not to tell the students!
Seventh graders are working hard on revising their memoirs- in fact we will be in the computer lab the next two days conferencing and working on them. I am really enjoying having both 7th grade classes daily. In Halloween terms, they are treats and not tricks!!
Eighth graders have shifted contents and are now in my Arts/Humanities class. We have studied Bunraku and Japanese Culture and today we had a quiz in which most students scored very well. We also visited the Study Island A/H topic of Elements of Drama and I'm proud to say that all students received their Blue Ribbons- way to go 8C!!
Remember this is Drug Awareness Week and Thursday students may wear '70s fashions and Friday is camouflage day!! That should be exciting.
Have a great Halloween and enjoy your four day weekend (remember no school next Monday or Tuesday) and I'll talk more next week.

Time Flies When Learning!

The time seems to be speeding by as we are learning so much in our classrooms. Sixth graders are about to embark on a high sea adventure while the seventh graders are traveling through time with Tuck Everlasting! Eight graders contiue to press on with pre-writes and leads as they learn more about on-demand writing.

Change is in the air with the season and at Chandler's too. After Fall Break, we will see some changes in our middle school schedules so until then, my blog will not be changing at this time. After our changes at school, you may see different information on this site.

School pictures are scheduled for this week and we will be having an ACADEMIC TRY-OUT INFORMATIONAL MEETING later this week! I have high expectations for our team this year and am looking forward to working with the team again this year.

Thanks for checking in on my site and thanks for being such a great group of students at Chandler's!

Congratulations to the Volleyball Team and MS County Football Team! What a great season for both teams!

Fantastic Week!

I can't believe our first full week is over. The kids are really working hard and beginning to write in their journals or begin writing pieces. Sixth graders will be creating their "cereal" box journals next week (so don't forget your cereal boxes) as well as their "how to" pieces, while seventh graders individualized their journals this week (check out the journal collection picture), and eighth graders wrote their first article comparing open response question writing and on demand writing. Whew!
Thanks for a great week and I'm looking forward to next week.

6B- Current Thoughts

My other class helped post earlier but this class is just as awesome as the other one! I have wonderful classes this year. While this is their first year of Middle School, this group feels very comfortable with their environment. This class needs to remember to also bring in Cereal boxes as soon as possible so we can begin to create your writing notebooks.

6th Grade Thoughts

Today the 6th Graders visited my blog site. They are an awesome group of kids! We are currently creating collages in Flex classes and will be working on our Writing Notebooks in the upcoming days.
Reminders: Bring Cereal Boxes when you can- these will become our Writing Notebooks
Have your Agenda Books signed by Friday morning when you come to school.
Keep up with your "tickets" they are to be with you at all times and remember to have them signed over the weekend and return to me on Monday.

Two Weeks

I can't believe we return to school in just two short weeks! My summer has been so busy but I have enjoyed every minute. I spent the month of June in school (WKU) in a Writing Class- can you believe it?? I was so nervous but I made new friends and actually wrote several pieces that I plan to share with you this year. My new classmates gave me great ideas to make our classes more interesting and challenging too.
I just returned from our vacation to Washington DC. WOW!! That place was awesome. Jackson and I spent a week exploring all the sites and museums. My feet are tired but the memories will last a lifetime.
And now I sit at my computer in my classroom preparing for your return. I'm eager to see all 7th and 8th graders and to meet our new 6th graders too! We also have new teachers on our wing this year and I'm looking forward to meeting them.
Well, this room won't be ready for you if I keep writing. Enjoy these last few days and I'll see you soon!!
